Resist
Building Muscles of Resistance
It has never been more important to stand up for what you believe than right now at this moment in history. Standing up can take a lot of courage because retribution could really happen. We do have to be smart but we can’t afford to be silent.
The T-shirt is just a small, funny and slightly crude way to express your resistance. If it resonates with you and feels right, then why not buy one? Who knows the impact it could have.
It will start building your resistance muscles and will help to embolden you. It will embolden your friends and strangers, making them realize that they can also speak out. Some of them will go on to stand up and resist in very significant ways.
People in all walks of life are being put in the untenable position of having to choose between what’s right and what’s safest or best for themselves and their families. Educators, government, workers, public servants, politicians, heads of institutions.
Any one of us could find ourselves in that position, and we have to be ready to do the right thing. Small acts of defiance can prepare you for that big moment when you are called to choose. Maybe this T-shirt is one of those small acts.
We also have to celebrate those who are already showing the courage to resist in the face of significant personal risk. The federal judges, the governor of Maine, Harvard University. We have to do everything we can to applaud these heroes and let them know we have their backs.
This is the time to encourage each other to speak out and to make courageous choices. There are opportunities to protest, write to politicians, post on social media, but we also just need to continue in our own positivity. Create beauty in our own lives more fully and confidently than ever. And we need to prepare to resist when we are in a position to do so.
It is time to tell the world where we stand at this precarious moment. This isn’t about preaching to the choir or about trying to convert those who are set in their ways. This is about showing solidarity with those who are harmed by our government. It is about saying that they deserve to be treated as humans.
This is about celebrating the heroes, who use whatever position they find themselves in to stand up for what’s right, even at significant risk to their safety and their families well-being. It’s about telling the judges who defend the law that we have their backs and we see them. It’s about celebrating the governor of Maine who refused to cave-in to illegal intimidation. We all need to find ways to show each other that we care and that we are not asleep at the wheel. This tee shirt is just one small humorous way to do that.
This isn’t about ideology or where we stand on certain issues. It is about human goodness. It’s about respecting our fellow human beings. It is showing that we are part of the greater human family, not just some tiny segment of it.
Did you notice a name that is conspicuously missing from this video? That name is also purposely incomplete on the T-shirt. There are people who thrive on any kind of attention both positive and negative and they do not deserve to be named. Don’t make them stronger by giving them your attention or by saying their name. Click the link to read about the unnamed challenge and discover how you can share your creativity with the world in a way that does feed the flames of conflict and negativity.
Whether or not this shirt is for you, I want to encourage you to stay positive and start building your muscles of resistance.
